Choosing The Right Photographer

You've been making all the plans for your big day. Now, you are trying to find the "perfect" photographer your story. Where do you start? With so many options available, the task seems impossible and daunting! Pinterest offers a variety of questions to ask a potential photographer, but is that really enough? Does it really matter to you what camera they use? How do you know its the right person to capture YOUR big day? My hope is that after reading this post, you will feel more confident during your search.

1. Remember the photographer is a person, too. You pull up blog after blog, website after website, looking for something that tells you, "this is the one!". Beautiful photographs are only part of the decision.

When meeting with a photographer, be sure to talk with them as a friend. Could you get along with this person? If you cannot feel comfortable with the photographer, the photos will reflect that! Take the time to get to know something about the photographer and connect with that person.

2. Could you put your complete trust in that person?
Months of your hard work is invested into this ONE day. There are so many arrangements that must fall into place for this day to go smoothly.

The last thing you should be stressing about on your wedding day is photography. You should be able to focus on your loved ones and the one you are about to MARRY! :) When you are choosing a photographer, you should be able to feel confident that they can perform. Then, on your big day, remember to relax and enjoy the people who are there to support you (including your photographer!).

3. Does their style match your vision?
These are the images you will share with your children and grandchildren. The photographs that bring back a funny memory or make you cry. Whatever emotions you felt when that photo was taken will come flooding back!

A photographer pours their heart and soul into their work. The portraits you see online are products of hours of hard work. Make the investment in someone whose work you love! There are many styles of shooting and post-processing that will make a difference in your images. Also, be sure to share with your photographer the things that are most important to you.

4. Be sure your self-image is healthy.
Beauty comes from the inside out; confidence cannot be added in post-processing.

Hiring a professional photographer will not magically fix or change something you dislike about yourself. An image should beautifully capture those little things that make you unique!

5. Do an engagement session with your photographer!
One of the best ways to ensure you are comfortable around your photographer is to spend time with that person. Being in front of your photographer's lens will help you gain confidence and build trust.

Best,
Virginia Ruth
